Calgary’s downtown revitalization strategy continues to gain momentum, with 11 office-to-residential conversion projects now underway, expected to deliver 1,500 new homes for over 2,400 people, including 300 subsidized units. Since 2021, the city has invested $250 million into making the urban core a more inclusive, vibrant, and livable neighbourhood. International recognition from the Wall Street Journal and New York Times suggests the transformation is being noticed well beyond Alberta.

However, public safety remains a critical challenge. The Calgary Downtown Association has pointed to ongoing issues with homelessness, drug use, and vandalism as barriers to re-engaging visitors and local businesses. While police presence has increased, city leaders and community groups agree that long-term success will require continued investment in safety, services, and placemaking.
