Calgary International Airport (YYC) welcomed a record 18.9 million passengers in 2024 and reported historic highs in both cargo landings and retail revenue. Nine new retail tenants, five new flight routes, and a growing number of international carriers underscore the airport’s expanding role as a regional economic engine. According to Calgary Airport Authority CEO Chris Dinsdale, the airport now contributes $6.5 billion to city GDP and supports 42,000 local jobs

This surge in aviation activity has meaningful implications for commercial real estate in logistics, hospitality, and retail sectors—particularly in northeast Calgary. With ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including a $200 million runway rebuild and centralized security screening investment, real estate stakeholders should monitor YYC’s evolution as both a travel hub and commercial growth anchor.
