After more than a decade of planning, construction has officially begun on Phase 1 of Calgary’s Green Line LRT. With $6.248 billion in combined funding from municipal, provincial, and federal partners, the Green Line represents the city’s largest-ever infrastructure investment. The 17.2-kilometre SE segment will feature 12 stations, three Park and Rides, a maintenance facility, and 28 low-floor trains—serving Calgary’s southeast from Shepard to the future Event Centre.

For real estate stakeholders, this milestone marks a pivotal shift in how growth and connectivity will unfold across Calgary. Improved mobility is expected to catalyze housing, mixed-use development, and job creation along the line—unlocking untapped value in southeast and inner-city districts. As Phase 1 connects with the future downtown segment and existing LRT lines, the Green Line is poised to anchor a new spine of urban intensification and sustainable expansion.
