Calgary is marking two major milestones in aviation training:

  • Mount Royal University will celebrate the grand opening of its new 36,632-sq.-ft. aviation facility at Springbank Airport on October 3rd. The campus features classrooms, study space, and two hangars to support its Bachelor of Aviation Management and Aviation Diploma programs. The expansion boosts student capacity, supports fleet growth, and coincides with 55 years of flight instruction at MRU.

  • WestJet and CAE have signed a 15-year agreement to establish the Alberta Training Centre of Excellence in Calgary. The 126,000 sq. ft. facility will feature eight full-flight simulators, cabin trainers, and advanced digital learning systems, with opening planned for 2028. In partnership with MRU, the centre will integrate academic programs, research, and a new Airline Transition Program.

These investments solidify Calgary’s role as a hub for aviation training, talent development, and aerospace innovation, with long-term implications for skills development, workforce growth, and regional competitiveness.
