Recently released 2024 data from Statistics Canada highlights the scale and momentum of interprovincial trade in manufactured and wholesale goods—with Alberta emerging as a key contributor.
Alberta recorded the largest year-over-year increase in interprovincial wholesale trade, rising +$10.1 billion
The province also saw a +$2.1 billion increase in manufactured goods sales, among the highest nationally
Wholesale trade flows between Ontario and Alberta grew by $6.9 billion (+5.9%), marking the largest gain between any two provinces
By contrast, trade between Manitoba and Alberta declined by $4.1 billion (-29.5%), highlighting shifting regional dynamics
These gains build on Alberta’s already strong participation in internal trade, where a higher-than-average share of businesses are engaged in buying and selling across provincial borders. The data points to continued strength in wholesale distribution, manufacturing output, and interprovincial supply chain integration.
For Calgary and the broader Alberta market, this reinforces demand fundamentals tied to industrial real estate—particularly logistics, warehousing, and distribution infrastructure. As internal trade becomes an increasingly important economic lever, Alberta’s scale and connectivity position it as a central hub within Canada’s domestic supply network.
