A new $214 million computing infrastructure project near Fox Creek has been added to Alberta's Major Projects database, highlighting the growing role of digital infrastructure within the province's investment landscape.

The project follows Bitdeer Technologies Group's acquisition of a 101 MW site and gas-fired power project from Kiwetinohk Energy Corp. for $21.7 million. The transaction marks Bitdeer's first investment in Canada and demonstrates how Alberta's energy resources are attracting interest from operators of large-scale computing facilities.

  • Estimated project value: $214 million

  • 101 MW power generation facility

  • Approximately 100 MW of computing capacity

  • Construction currently underway

  • Operations expected in Q2 2027

The project combines power generation and computing infrastructure at a single location, reflecting a growing trend toward energy-integrated facilities. As demand for computing capacity continues to expand, access to reliable and scalable power is becoming an increasingly important consideration for operators and investors.

While this project is located in northern Alberta, it contributes to a broader conversation about the province's ability to attract investment in data centres, high-performance computing and other digital infrastructure. Alberta's energy resources, available land and business environment are increasingly being viewed as competitive advantages for power-intensive industries. As technology and computing requirements continue to grow, projects such as this illustrate how energy and digital infrastructure are becoming increasingly connected.
