Alberta’s film and TV sector contributed about $450 million to the province’s GDP in 2023 and supported more than 3,200 jobs, according to Calgary Economic Development. Calgary is Canada’s fourth-largest production hub. But new U.S. tariff threats pose a risk to future growth.
Major productions such as The Last of Us generated more than $180 million in Alberta’s GDP, according to ATB Financial. A slowdown could affect studios, suppliers and the wider creative economy.
