Long known for its iconic July rodeo, thanks to major investments like the BMO Centre expansion, the renovated Big Four Building, and upcoming venues like Scotia Place, Stampede Park is anchoring Calgary’s emergence as a premier, year-round destination for large-scale conventions, cultural programming, and international events.
With a diversified event calendar ranging from Comic Expo to Monster Jam, the Rotary International Convention to youth rodeos, Stampede Park is boosting tourism, sustaining hospitality jobs, and attracting film and TV productions—including serving as home base for The Last of Us. The new Sam Centre also offers a cultural anchor that keeps western heritage accessible to visitors year-round.
CRE stakeholders should take note: this evolution signals growing demand for hotels, retail, and event-aligned commercial spaces around the Beltline, East Victoria Park, and Rivers District. With Calgary aiming to match or surpass the Stampede’s $282M 10-day impact on a year-round basis, the city is only at the beginning of what could be a transformative shift in its global identity and investment appeal.
