Following the loss of its Inglewood taproom to a fire in 2024, Calgary-based Ol’ Beautiful Brewing is moving forward with plans to rebuild, while continuing operations through its production facility and new downtown concept, Sound Room. From a real estate perspective, the story highlights something increasingly important in Calgary’s urban districts: successful hospitality and retail businesses are often tied as much to place as they are to product.

Ol’ Beautiful’s original Inglewood location became more than a brewery. It evolved into a community gathering space, helping reinforce the character and identity of one of Calgary’s most established mixed-use neighbourhoods. Following the fire, the company has continued operating while maintaining plans to rebuild within the area.

  • Projects like this demonstrate several broader real estate themes:

  • Strong neighbourhood brands create long-term location value

  • Independent hospitality operators contribute to district identity and foot traffic

  • Adaptive interim spaces can help businesses remain active during redevelopment periods

  • Reinvestment in established urban corridors continues to support neighbourhood vibrancy and commercial demand

As Calgary’s inner-city communities continue to evolve, businesses that create authentic gathering spaces often become important contributors to the long-term strength of the surrounding real estate environment. The planned rebuild of Ol’ Beautiful is not simply the return of a brewery. It is another example of continued investment in one of Calgary’s most recognizable urban districts.
