Marriott International has ended its licensing agreement with Sonder Holdings, prompting the short-term rental operator to file for Chapter 7 liquidation. The move marks the collapse of one of the most prominent hotel-apartment hybrid models in North America.

For Calgary’s evolving hospitality and mixed-use market, the news reinforces the need for financially resilient models as more adaptive reuse and conversion projects come online.
