Calgary’s unemployment rate dropped to 7.3% in June, down from 8.2% last year, with 48,900 new jobs added. Growth was led by Educational Services (+15,900), Wholesale and Retail Trade (+12,500), and Health Care (+11,400). But early signs of softening are emerging: Calgary’s unemployment-to-job vacancy ratio rose to 3.9, and real wages declined for the first time since March 2024 as inflation continues to erode purchasing power. As regional economic pressures shift, labour market trends are key to understanding the pace of development, investment confidence, and commercial space demand.
