A new ranking highlights Banff and Canmore as two of the best downtowns in the Rockies, underscoring their role as major drivers of Alberta’s tourism economy. These destinations, which attract millions of visitors annually, channel significant tourism traffic through Calgary and reinforce its role as an international tourism hub.

For Calgary, the spillover is clear: high-tourism areas such as Stephen Avenue and the Downtown Core, East Village, Beltline, 17th Avenue Retail & Entertainment District, and the developing Culture & Entertainment District (C+E) are pivotal to capturing tourism spending. These areas blend retail, hospitality, entertainment, and mixed-use projects, creating opportunities for investors, landlords, and tenants aligned with Calgary’s visitor economy.
