A Remarkably Honest Take on Real Estate Decisions

We came across one of the most candid pieces of real estate advice we’ve heard in years, courtesy of Aritzia founder Brian Hill quoting his father:

“If you're going to expand across the country, get really good real estate, because then when you fail you’ll know it's because you're shitty. Whereas if you get lousy real estate and you fail, you won't know if the real estate's shitty or you're shitty.”

Behind the humour is a serious lesson. Strong real estate doesn’t guarantee success, but it gives entrepreneurs something invaluable: a clean read on what’s working, what’s not, and what deserves to change.

Every expansion strategy eventually runs through this same truth.
